Introductory Bio

Maxwell Goldman, Los Angeles native, made his return to LA from the wilds of Northern California a little over a year ago. The time abroad had been adventure filled, but home was calling so he made his way back to the city that raised him. We met through a DJ friend and hit it off immediately.
Well, truth be told, Max had found a big faced Benji earlier that day and used his newly acquired wealth to get us both hammered at downtown warehouse party and I can never turn down a free drink. Over the course of that evening (and number of beers we drank) I was struck by not only his quick wit, but his extensive knowledge of music. Goldman is a digger, a throwback to a bygone era where the hunt for the rare and obscure was an adventure and not a Google search. He takes both pride and pleasure in finding those hidden jems that most of us would come across if were not for people like him. A gentleman and a scholar, Maxwell loves music and I think you’ll see that reflected in this series for Reserve Radio.

Joey’s Western Swing 78s

This episode of Vinyl Meltdown features the sound of jazz infused country music known as Western Swing. The style began in the late 1930’s, evolving through the 40’s, and hitting its stride after World War II, especially on the west coast. Joey Altruda spins these original 78 r.p.m. discs from a 1940’s RCA Victor record player, giving the listener a sense of time travel back to this golden era. Yee Haw!

Israel “Cachao” Lopez – The Art Of The Cuban Jam Session

Joey Altruda presents a special program of music featuring Israel “Cachao” Lopez. One of Altruda’s favorite musicians, Cachao was an iconic bassist, composer, arranger, and stylist; credited with creating the Mambo, as well as Descarga (Cuban for jam session).

His career spanned over seven decades including a Grammy Award-winning CD and documentary produced and directed by actor Andy Garcia. This episode is sizzlin’ hot!

Casser Le Système

An amazing hour-long mix of eclectic sounds as always, this second installment of The Town Cryer gives us an inside perspective of Mathieu’s nostalgia for French music during his youth. As he explains, ”Casser Le Système (Break The System) is a way to showcase the many different influences that shaped French music in the early 80’s, whether it was drugs, fashion, or the many foreign musical movements (such as punk, new wave and disco) that reached our shores and our airwaves.”

Gantez Warrior.

WOR Radio presents an interview with WOR recording artist Gantez Warrior. The band is made up of 3 very young and talented surf kids out of the beach town of Costa Mesa, California. According to lead singer Levi Prairie, the band’s about “Making out, dancing, teenage party music, surfing, positive fun, and getting people down to as little clothes as possible.” Formed in 2005 when they were all 13 years old and playing small gigs and backyard parties, their first single under WOR Records drops very very soon.

The two West Coast heavyweight emcees decided to pull together the extremely odd and the undeniably talented artists of Los Angeles they know and throw them on Reserve Radio to expose audiences to new and unheard forms of music. Expect nothing but the rarest and rawest artists featured on The Steady Machine Show, we guarantee you will never pin point what they are going to do next.

The Gaslamp Killer was a West Coast dirty drum, neck-break beat phenomenon, but as of lately has become a worldwide house hold name in the mouths of eager nutcases waiting for his return to ears and venues. Gaslamp was kind enough to come down to The Steady Machine Show and start off our tirade with a 35 minute murder mix. If you haven’t had the chance to see this man in person, every Wednesday night he’s at the world famous Low End Theory Club in Los Angeles. Gaslamp left the tracklist to the listeners imagination, so do your homework on the GLK.
